Super Saturdays -3/26/2011

I've noticed a lot of people have special days of the week for their blogs so I decided to start Super Saturdays. Every Saturday, I'll let you know the crazy adventures we had that day/week/whatever.

Today we went to White Rock Lake's Family Fun Weekend.

Let me tell you...this was not nearly as popular as you would have thought. I'm sure the coordinators were frustrated by the fact that they brought 3 full sheet cakes and there weren't even enough people to finish one!

Regardless, we had a wonderful time. Jacob made some birthday cards for the lake:

Then one of the volunteers helped him make some seed balls. It's compost and clay mixed together, then you roll it in a ball and push your thumb in the middle to make a little bowl. You put some seeds inside and then pinch the sides closed so it's a ball again. She said you just throw them on the ground and the rain will take care of the rest.

Then we headed over to the Bath House and they had some tadpoles and a bull frog on display. That bull frog did NOT want to be in the little aquarium.

Then we went on a little nature walk and learned about some of the birds.

Jacob was more interested in the giant pile of leaves, though.

He got to check out the bird through the binoculars, which was pretty cool.

The City of Dallas proclaimed today to be Arbor Day 2011.

Afterwards, we found a see-saw/teeter-totter/whatever you call it. Jacob and his brother from another mother (and father), Joey, had to try it out.

Afterwards, we hit up the Dallas Kids Expo. I was unimpressed seeing as it was about half the size of the DFW Family Expo. However, Jacob had an absolute blast, so that made it worth it. I found out about some great new water parks in the area that I think we'll check out this summer.

And for those of you not in DFW...the high today was 85 degrees.

Baby Got Back (Cloth Diaper Edition)

So I was really bored this morning and started writing cloth diaper lyrics to Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-lot. Now, I only did the first verse (of three). I may write some more later.

Enjoy!

Baby Got Back (Cloth Diaper Edition)

Oh my gosh, Becky, look at his butt
It's so big
He looks like one of those crunchy moms' babies
But, you know, who understands those crunchy moms?
They act like they only care about saving the environment, 'kay?
I mean, his butt is just so big
I can't believe it's just so fluffy
it's like out there, I mean - wow
Look! He's just so ... CUTE!

I like cloth butts and I cannot lie.
You other mothers can't deny.
When a baby crawls in with an itty bitty waist
And a poopy look on their face
You go run
Gotta pull out your cloth
Cuz you know that butt is stuffed
Deep in the cover he's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop sharing
Oh baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My 'sposie friends try to warn me
say those fluffy diapers make me so corny
Ooh with your cute grin
You say you got a fluffy friend?
Well, reuse me, reuse me
Cuz that's why you always choose me
I see you dancin'
While they're trying to do financin'
Don't fret, I bet
'Sposie mamas going into debt
I'm tired of magazines
Saying paper butts are the thing
Take the average crunchy mom and ask her that
She got fluff in her pack
So mamas, (Yeah!) mamas, (Yeah!)
Has your baby got the butt? (Heck yeah!)
Tell 'em to shake it, (Shake it!) shake it (Shake it!)
Shake that fluffy butt
Baby got back

Gerber face with a fluffy booty
Baby got back!

I'm strong to the finish 'cause I eats me spinach

A Day in Fort Worth

Yesterday, we had a playdate scheduled at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History at 11:00. Most of our families have memberships with extra admission slots on them so we can usually get the families without memberships in for free! We had 6 families (including my little sister, her husband, and their two boys) in attendance and no one had to pay to get in. We hung out until around 3:00 when one of our members suggested we check out the Just Between Friends sale that was across the street. After multiple attempts at corralling children and husbands away from the exhibits, we headed across the street and spent about 2 hours checking out all the great stuff people were selling. None of us left empty handed. Afterwards, my little sister's family and the boys and me headed out to pick up some food for DH (his work is fairly close) and then we went to dinner at Tortalandia where I tried a torta for the first time. It was pretty good! DH met us there after he got off of work and we all headed back to the museum to watch TRON Legacy on their IMAX screen. Let me tell you, it was AWESOME! Heading home in my sisters van around midnight, this is what I saw:

Here are some more pics of the fun we had:

Pearly Whites

Back in December, I noticed that one of Joshua's teeth was poking out the front and back of his gums. I don't really consider this a real first tooth, since it won't be useful until it breaks through the top. Today, however, I did notice that he has one of his molars, of all things, that has just popped out!

First tooth to break skin:

It's the white dot to the right of my thumb.

And here's his first official tooth:

It's still barely there, so it must have just broken through today, but I can feel it and it's definitely through!

In related news, despite Jacob getting his first tooth at 4.5 months old, he has yet to have a single loose tooth, but he does have all 4 of his permanent "first molars" (kids normally get them between 6 and 7 years old). Apparently, studies have found that kids who get their teeth earlier are more likely to have cavities and other tooth problems, so I'm hoping it's not true in his case.

Tooth Eruption Chart

Jacob's tooth chart - I stopped adding to this in September '06, but you can see the dates and order that most of his teeth came in.

Tweaking the System

Any of my friends can attest that I lead a very crazy life...no two days are the same! I'm finding it hard to keep up with the FlyLady routines. In order to combat this, I'm instituting a new system where I make a big to do list for the next day rather than having a recurring routine. Here's what tomorrow looks like now:

Get dressed
Swish & Swipe
Brush teeth/hair
Make bed
Load laundry
Drink a bottle of water
Check calendar
Drop off Jacob
Meet new playgroup member for breakfast
Drink a bottle of water
Laundry to dryer
Eat lunch
Rake the leaves
Sweep living room
Pick Jacob up from school
Playdate
Pump for Jessica
Put away laundry
Make dinner (spaghetti)
Check calendar for Thursday
Lay out clothes
Necessities at launch pad
2 min Hot Spot Rescue
Shine Sink
Shower
Brush teeth
Go to bed

If I find extra time, I'll do a 15 min declutter mission and a 27 fling boogie on my clothes.

I hope that this will work to keep me on track!
