How far along are you?

I know so many pregnant people right now, it's crazy! I decided to make this little guide to help those mamas figure out how many months pregnant they are. This also works for keeping track of baby's age.

The way we track pregnancies is totally nuts. Some people go by the Gregorian calendar, others say that 4 weeks count as a month, still others have their own special way of charting. I'm going to try to explain tracking your months using the Gregorian calendar. This is the standard calendar that most people use.

LMP = Last menstrual period. This is the date that most maternity caregivers/websites go by. Regardless of when your last period was, they'll say that this date is two weeks before probable conception. Everyone's period is different, everyone's ovulation schedule is different, and nobody knows for sure when that sperm snuck into the egg, so this is what we'll go by for this lesson. Keep in mind that in America, we don't count the day until AFTER it occurs. You aren't 1 year old until you completed your entire first year of life and you aren't 1 day pregnant until the start of the second day.

If your LMP was on January 1 in a non-leap year, your calendar would be like this:

And you just continue this for every month. In this example, on April 15, this woman would be "14 w, 6 d" or "3 m, 15 d", depending on how she wanted to state how far along she was. On her due date (Oct 6th), she would be "40 w" or "9 m, 6 d".

Another thing people have problems figuring out is the difference between how many months you are compared to what month you're in. The easiest way I can think to explain it is that, for this woman during January (the first month of the year), she is IN her first month, but she doesn't turn 1 month until February 1st. You will always be IN the month before you TURN that month. When you are 5 months pregnant, you are in your 6th month, just like how your baby is in their first year for the 12 months before he/she turns 1.

Please leave a comment if you have any questions and I'll make sure to update this to include the answer.

Super Saturdays -4/23/11

Sorry it has been so long since I've posted. Life has been totally nuts and I lost my camera so the only way to take pics right now is with my phone (totally not meant for efficient picture taking).

Quick recap - the 8th through the 10th was our semi-annual camp trip with my mom's side of the family. There are typically anywhere between 30-55 people at each of these and they are always a blast! During that trip, we went crawfishing. Each of us got a bit of fishing line and tied a bit of raw bacon to the end of it. Jacob caught two and I caught 2 or 3. The group of us wound up with at least 20 crawfish total. We wound up letting them go, though. I also seem to have left my camera in the cup holder of one of the chairs there, because that was the last I saw of it :(

Last Saturday, we went to Hurst's EGGstravaganza. Great fun. The boys got free pics with the Easter Bunny and Jacob found an egg with a coupon for a free 8-piece chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A!

Last night, I had a wonderful time hanging out with some of the awesome moms in our group (and a few of the pre-walking babies). It was great fun sitting around and chatting for 5 hours with ladies that I have so much in common with!

Today was the Great Cloth Diaper Change. The one I went to was at Going Bonkers in Lewisville (love that place!)  We were tied for the largest number of participants in the event with 66 parents and babies! While I was busy helping to set a world record, Jacob was having a great time climbing through their gigantic play structure.

Tonight, I'm working the church nursery for Easter Vigil. Joshua's Godmothers got him an Easter outfit...can't wait to see it!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy Easter for us...working the church nursery until noon, my mom is going to have an Easter lunch at her place at 4:00 and then after DH gets off work, we're going out to an Easter dinner with his Dad's family. I'm so glad I have a little break after all that!

What are your Easter plans?

My new background

We went to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens a while back and I was able to get some (IMO) awesome shots. I chose the second from the bottom for my background. I love the bee sticking out of the rose!

I'm a TWIT!

I decided it was time to take the plunge and start a Twitter account. I hope to be able to keep up with it often. Please follow me on there...I'm @soccergrrl2001

I also set up a Facebook Fan Page:

Super Saturdays - 4/2/2011

So I'm watching my nephews (Marcus and Gabriel) for the weekend while my sister is OOT with her best friend for a girls' weekend and my BIL is OOT with his professor and a few classmates from college on a field trip.

Original plans were to go to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History - luckily, the museum posted on Facebook that they were closed today to prepare for the Mad Scientist Ball this evening. A few of my friends that were planning on joining us noticed the post yesterday before I even woke up and sent me messages letting me know.

So I changed the event to Aunt Mikki's KID'S FISH at Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine. Boy, am I glad I did! The boys had a blast! Jacob, Gabriel, Joey, and Jenna each caught at least one fish. Marcus tried his best and was very patient, but it just wasn't his lucky day.

Jacob caught the first fish for our group:

Joey's first fish:

Gabe's first fish:

I don't have pictures of Jenna's fish, but I have a feeling that we caught the same fish at least 3 times. Joey caught one of the bass...I think it was a big mouth. That thing was 6-7 inches long! He reeled that sucker in by himself until it got to the surface. It was just too heavy for him to get it out of the water, so I had to help him pull it up. I wish I could have gotten a pic of that!

After we finished fishing, Tamara and I walked the kids over to Whataburger right next door. They all enjoyed their burgers and we had a great time.

Then, we headed back to Bass Pro and took some pictures with the "shark":

It was time to change the little ones' diapers, so Tamara and I took turns watching the big kids while the other was on diaper duty. Behind the big shark, there is a cute painting of a dock, so I had to get a pic of the boys there:

We headed over to the arcade and let the boys play for a bit, then we took a look at the rattlesnake they had in a terrarium. It was pretty cool!

We walked out the door and saw the Carter Blood bus. I asked Tamara if she wanted to take turns watching the kids as the other donated blood. She decided she'd watch first, so I headed in. After the long approval interview, I sat down and did my pint - 9 minute donation. Unfortunately, they stopped taking donors at 4:00 and by the time I finished with everything, it was 4:45.

On the plus side, Tamara made friends with the wife of the other patient that was donating at the same time I was. I'm hoping to get a pending member request in my inbox soon!

So we basically spent 6 hours in Grapevine today. I'm trying to get the boys to rest for a bit and cool off, but I don't think it's going to happen.

P.S. Still no package :(

Waiting...

You know that feeling you get when one of your favorite bargain sites is about to have an awesome deal on one of your favorite products? You wait at the computer, stalking the site...you know all the tricks...how to make your computer auto-refresh, you have your credit card number already typed out on Notepad and you triple checked to make sure the numbers are right. You spend 8+ hours just waiting for the deal to come up and BAM there it is! Mad rush to get the desired styles into your "diaper bag". You're so glad that Google Chrome has Autofill. You paste your credit card number into the appropriate field and hit submit. You've done it! You beat out who knows how many other mamas to get the items you "needed"! Confirmation email pops into your inbox and...

You wait.

Why did you have to choose the s.l.o.w.e.s.t. shipping method? That's right, it's the cheapest. Why didn't you fork over that extra couple of bucks to get it expedited? You bought it and you want it NOW! 8-10 business days will NOT cut it!

And here I am. Waiting, again, for an online purchase to be shipped to me.

Sometimes I wish we had teleporters so we could get our purchases instantly. Definitely a lesson in patience taught by internet sales.

I'm just hoping I get a little love note with my package ;)
